Generally you look for a solution after you discover you have a problem. Running a company without finding better ways and methods to the processes, means not being able to realize the maximum profits possible.

The majority the shipping departments I have been in over the years I found a mixture of benches and tables thrown together with papers, equipment, and supplies. Being organized with a good shipping table, being structured with product flow, with everything in it's proper place, within easy access and reach, greatly increases productivity.
Using a good shipping bench with shelves for boxes, computers, tape dispensers, etc, creates an efficient, ergonomic, solution that address your needs and integrates into your work flow. We offer solutions with the Dehnco line of workbenches and shipping tables.
To increase product flow, I highly recommend looking into conveyors to move boxes from the order pulling areas to shipping to the dock doors. Each time an employee picks up and moves an order time is wasted. Companies that specialize in conveyors have engineers to help you design the proper solution.
I find a lot of time wasted by packers having to apply labels. Manual multiple roll label dispensers keep all the labels in one place within easy access. For larger jobs our electric label dispensers speed up label application by using the "pick and stick" solution over the "find the roll, pick up the roll, peel and stick". We offer videos on several of our models for a better understanding.
Hand held tape guns are necessary and found in almost all shipping departments. The number one problem is keeping up with the guns. Operators and other employees will walk off and leave the guns causing a lot of wasted time. Operators will apply multiple strips to seal cartons due to the poor performance of the seal. Roll change outs are also more frequent. On top of that, low cost tape guns have exposed blades that operators can be cut by. If you are going to use tape guns we highly recommend using the higher quality safety guns. I visited a shipping department recently and found the manager had installed large magnets on the side of the shipping bench to hold the gun when not in use. I thought that was a great idea and even incorporated it in our shipping department.
A better solution would be to consider using gummed reinforced tape to seal your cartons. The tape is stronger and cheaper when you consider the true cost of hand held tape guns. We have a few video links on our tape page.
