Want to avoid sticky fingers?  Some customers use "jersey" type gloves to avoid the sticky fingers.  I personally do not like the gloves.  Keeping your fingers clean only involves a minor change in how the packer removes the tape from the machine.  By dispensing the tape, the operator only needs to "cup" the tape in their hand.  Remove the tape by using the side of the thumb and inside fingers and slightly squeezing the tape.  Pull the tape away from the machine and drag it over the top of the carton from the right side to the left edge of the center top.  Stick down and rub with the "heel" of the palm.

With a little practice the fingers will be sticky free.
