To properly maintain the blade, every month or two remove the upper knife assembly, clean if needed with lighter fluid and apply a light coating of machine oil to the back of the blade. When reinstall the blade the extension tab is on the left (bottle) side of machine. Make sure to guide behind the shear guide roller.
