1) Will this band sealer print an expiration date on the bag with a lot number? The short answer is yes. The ink jet printer will print your message above the seal with multiple lines of print up to the width of the bag. The ink is only available in non-porous black. We do recommend sending sample bags to our testing department to insure everything works with a sample message. We do have the ability to do a live video feed with several of the messaging services.
2) Can I print the message below the seal? Not with this unit. We do adapt an independent ink jet printer to our other models that will enable printing on other parts of the bag. To insure a proper fit we highly recommend allowing us to sample print.
3) How fast do band sealers work? In general, as fast as you can feed bags. Band sealers have a variable speed control and a range of temperature settings. The faster the speed the higher the temperature needs to be for a good seal. Adjusting the speed of the conveyor will affect the printing speed and adjustments will need to be made with the ink jet printer. We recommend finding a good speed and temperature setting then make adjustment to the printer.
4) Is there a way to adjust the printer for a good message without wasting expensive bags? Yes, with the heater off and conveyor on, use 20# bond paper in place of your poly bag to sample print your message until you get the right speed and placement.
5) Can I seal and print on 4 mil and 2 mil bags? Yes, but you will have to adjust the temperature setting. The thicker the poly bag the higher the temperature.
