Most Common BP555e Problems
Machine Clicks and Buzzes but Will Not Feed Tape
If pressing a button causes the blade to click and then the machine emits a buzzing sound, worn or stuck motor brushes are often the cause. In some cases the brushes are not fully worn out, but instead become stuck in their holders and lose contact with the motor shaft.
The replacement motor brush kit is part number 123P-ND105BXK.
Machine Dispenses Short Tape Lengths
If your BP555e consistently dispenses short lengths of tape, inspect the lower idler wheel adjustment. This adjustment is one of the most commonly overlooked adjustments on the machine.
If adjusted too loosely, the machine may dispense tape shorter than the selected length. If adjusted too tightly, the feed wheels can engage before the blade fully raises, causing tape to strike the back of the blade and jam.
The lower idler wheel assembly is part number 123P-E555-053-01. The upper feed wheel is part number 123P-E555-065-00.
Machine Will Not Run
BP555e machines use a magnet mounted in the top cover to activate a safety sensor. If this magnet falls out or becomes dislodged, the machine may not run even though it powers on normally.
On older models, the magnet was glued into the cover. Over time, that adhesive can fail and the magnet may be lost or stuck to the side frame.
Excessive Buzzing During Operation
A buzzing BP555e does not always mean a failed component. In many cases, adhesive buildup or debris accumulates inside the solenoid "chamber" / belly of the machine, preventing the plunger from making complete contact with the base. Cleaning the solenoid plunger and base often eliminates the noise.
The solenoid assembly is part number 123P-E555-005-01.
Dirty Machines Cause Many Problems
One of the most common repairs we perform is cleaning the machine. Adhesive buildup, tape dust, and mineral deposits can lead to feeding problems, jams, poor cutting, and machines not working.
In some cases, a thorough cleaning and replacement of wear items such as moistening brushes and felt pads is all that is required to return the machine to service.
Replacement moistening brushes are part number 123P-E555-132-01.
Heater Problems
A broken heater does not necessarily mean the machine is beyond repair. The heater warms the moistening brushes as tape passes through the machine, helping activate the adhesive on water activated tape.
Leaving the machine powered on overnight or between shifts can shorten heater life and accelerate mineral buildup on the brushes and heater area.
The replacement heater is part number 123P-E555-007-01.
Water Quality Matters
Distilled water is recommended whenever possible. Hard water can leave mineral deposits on the moistening brushes, water bottle, and tank.
Customers in areas with very hard water often experience heavy buildup that can destroy moistening brushes and cause excessive build-up on the underside of the heater. Turning the machine off between shifts helps reduce this.
The replacement water tank is part number 123P-E555-033-01.
Routine Maintenance
The felt pad behind the blade should be oiled occasionally. Depending on usage, applying a few drops of oil every 3–6 months can help maintain smooth operation. The purpose of the oil is to prevent the build-up of tape adhesive on the back of the blade.
