Why are gummed tape dispensers better than hand held tape dispensers?

Easy to find. Hand held tape dispensers are left all over a warehouse and people are constantly looking for them wasting valuable time. Gummed tape dispensers never move.
One strip of tape is all you need. Plastic tape is generally over used by packers putting multiple pieces on the top and bottom. This also wastes valuable time.
Gummed tape creates a permanent bond with the box. Plastic tape will pop off the carton flaps in the heat and dust interferes with the sticking of the tape.
Packing is done at the tape dispenser. Control what and where stuff is packed to prevent additional loss. Packages are sealed and labeled at one station.

Gummed tape is creating a natural bond with cartons. The gummed adhesives absorb dust, etc. and still bonds to the fibers. Gummed tape can also be used to cover old labels and markings to minimize confusing shipping companies. When compared with plastic tapes, gummed tape only requires one strip on the top and bottom flaps. Standard plastic tape is only 2" wide and packers will generally use two or more strips on each the top and bottom flaps of the box causing a doubling of the cost of labor, and an increase in overall tape expenditure.
