Fits Better Packages BP555e model gummed tape dispensers. The baffle plate is designed to prevent operators from getting their fingers into the blade area when the tank is removed for cleaning.
When removing this plate, if the plate is held in with three screws make sure to put the shortest screw in the upper position on the keyboard side. If replacing only use the two longer screws.
Occasionally we'll see machines with "rats nets" where the center of the machine is filled with tiny tape pieces that have worked their way in over the years. Too much build up and you'll find the solenoid may start to buzz.
If you remove this plate and the lower tape plate from the machine, you can blow out the solenoid area with compressed air. Make sure the machine is unplugged from the power supply! This is an important preventative maintenance step that we recommend. We clean out all machines that come in for repair using this method. Older models (BP555S, BP500) used to have open areas to allow tape to fall out of the bottom, but this style machine can wind up "trapping" a lot of small tape pieces.
If you're getting a lot of jamming where the tape seems to be driving directly into the moistening brushes, you can lightly bend the front forward part of this plate up a little to coax the tape to feed over the brushes. Sometimes this plate can get bent downward, and when the lower heater plate doesn't snap in right, you get all sorts of jams.
