E555-132-01 Moistening Brush
Fits Better Packages BP555eS, BP555eSA, BP555eL, BP555eLA, and European BP555e model gummed tape dispensers. The original triple brush assembly has been replaced with this new style single brush. Make sure to follow the instructions for preparing and using your new brush.
When you first receive a new set of moistening brushes, we recommend washing them with some dawn dish soap. While you're at it, clean the water tank, scrape the underside of the heater, and oil the felt pad for good measure!
Maintenance
We recommend removing the tank and brushes every week or two and cleaning the brushes with a mild dish-washing detergent like Dawn or Ivory. Avoid using detergents with moisturizing additives. Rinse well, and when putting the brushes back into the water tank, make sure the high points are facing in the same direction to the front of the tank.
If after cleaning the brushes, you are unable to remove any dried glues, replace brushes. Good brushes work only when they are able to 'scratch' into the hardened dried glues so the water can penetrate and reactivate the adhesives on the tape. If the water does not penetrate the glues, the tape will slide and not stick to the carton surface.
If your packers have a hard time remembering to clean the brushes, have them remove them and rinse them every (or every other) time they fill the water bottle.
Brushes should be replaced every 3-5 years for best results. Note: Be careful buying used or refurbished brushes. It's like buying a used paint brush, dried glues and damaged bristles will not work as good as a new. I have also found those selling used brushes are using a picture of a new set as an example.
If you have a BP500, you need the 123P-E107X. If you have the BP333, you need the PW107AK.
Note the difference in installing the new (2022) style brushes:
The old brushes consisted of 3 brushes of different heights held together with a cotter pin. When putting the brushes back in the tank, make sure the head of the cotter pin is under the brush retainer and snap the brush base under it.
The newer style brush is a single wide brush that just wedges against the brush retainer. If you have any questions give us a call.
