Manufacturing of the old series BP555S and BP555L tape dispensers discontinued in 1999. It was not unusual to have machines in for repair 25 years after the sale.
Due to the cost of manufacturing, the machine became too expensive to make. The BP555S was a mechanical electric tape dispensers and did not incorporate electronic components. The newer machine replaced 130+ parts with a circuit board. The sad part is many of the replace parts were much cheaper to replace than a circuit board. The machine manufactured today does not enjoy the same life span, but it does carry a lower cost.
