Upper tape plate holds the tape in place between the feed wheels and the cutting blade.
Is the tape jamming up before the cutting blade? Make sure the plate does not get bent. A bent plate causes the tape to pinch up and jam. The plate should "float" when installed. If you have to jam it into place, check to see if bent.
If the tape plate is missing, the tape WILL buck up between the feed wheel and blade. The machine WILL immediately or eventually jam if you do not have this plate in place.
Avoid substituting this FM12EL plate in the BP555eS & BP555eSA. The 555e series does have a lower tape plate with similar stubs that this upper tape plate can mount into, but this pinches the tape and causes jamming. For the BP555eS & BP555eSA upper tape plate, use part E555-018-00.
