The purpose of the rear roller is to make tape feeding easier by forcing the roll to unwind from the back/rear of the roll, and away from the feeding direction. Improper feeding will cause abnormal wear on the feed wheels.
Make sure operators are feeding the tape properly. For more info check out the video for feeding tape below.
When tape is not directed around the lift roller, and instead goes directly up from the tape roll to the black impression roller, the tape will - over time - cut into the black rubber impression roller on the older machines. Improper feeding can also lead to more jams!
