Gluefast’s SKID-LOCK® palletizing and unitizing system is an efficient and environmentally friendly way to palletize and unitize products for distribution.

Designed to increase the stability of unitized pallet loads, the SKID-LOCK® adhesive system results in the reduction or elimination of stretch wrap, strapping, and corner boards. With a possible savings of 50 percent or more due to reduced labor and source reduction of packaging materials, our SKID-LOCK® adhesive and application equipment is the solution you have been seeking.

So what makes this palletizing and unitizing system so efficient?

Skid Lock Palletizing and Unitizing System The SKID-LOCK® Palletizing and Unitizing System Consists of Three Easy Steps:

  1. SKID-LOCK®, a water-based Food Packaging Adhesive, is applied on top of each item before being palletized using one of three types of manual or automatic adhesive applicators.
  2. The packages are then placed on the pallet or slip-sheet where a unique adhesive bond forms that is high in shear strength (to hold during the side-to-side motion encountered during transportation) and low in tensile strength (up and down movement). If needed, stretch wrap is then applied to the top two tiers of packages.
  3. When the customer receives the pallet, they simply pick the package up to break the bond cleanly with no damage to the packaging.

So what makes this palletizing and unitizing system so environmentally friendly?

SKID-LOCK® is a water-based, non-toxic adhesive that leaves little or no residue, does not affect the recyclability of your containers, and produces no waste. All ingredients are FDA approved for indirect food contact, and suitable to use with packaged food products. For more information, see our palletizing and unitizing SKID-LOCK® adhesives.

So whether you need to palletize or unitize corrugated boxes, brown cartons, mottled white cartons, recycled cartons, paper bags, plastic bags, or shrink-wrapped items, the SKID-LOCK® Unitizing System is sure to deliver damage-free products with reduced packaging materials, saving you a substantial amount of money in the process. Unitize your load and facilitate the loading, unloading, and inventory of shipments while improving cargo security against theft, pilferage, and damage.

What Sets SKID-LOCK Adhesive Apart from the Competition?

Unlike other “so-called” palletizing adhesives, SKID-LOCK® adhesive is a true unitizing product specifically designed for use in palletizing or unitizing systems. Many other adhesive products work only if exactly the correct amount is applied. If too much is applied, fiber tearing occurs during unloading, thus damaging the package and possibly thwarting the sale of merchandise.

SKID-LOCK® is unique in that it is a water-based resin product with a key ingredient that is designed to prevent deep penetration of the resin into paper or board stock. The resulting surface bond provides the ideal properties for a true unitizing adhesive – high shear strength (to prevent side to side movement) and low tensile strength (to prevent up and down movement). We also feature a special formula for use on plastic bags and shrink-wrapped items!

How to Apply SKID-LOCK® Adhesive for the Best Results and the Most Secure Loads?

Skid Lock Adhesive: For the best results, apply SKID-LOCK® adhesive using one of our palletizing and unitizing adhesive applicators: manual applicators, the LC Auto Applicator, or the SLUSB-120 Auto Applicator. For the most secure load, cross stack your cartons, boxes, or bags. When the direction of each tier of cartons or bags is alternated, the load is said to be interlocked or cross-stacked. This method of loading allows each carton or bag, except for the top and bottom, to be in contact with at least two cartons or bags above and two below.

Please note that columnar stacking may require the use of one or more slip-sheets, or the use of a small amount of stretch wrap around the top two tiers. It is recommended that two strips of adhesive be applied to the top of each carton lengthwise, but it is not necessary to apply adhesive to the top tier of items.

SKID-LOCK® Adhesive is available in gallons, 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums, and 275 gallon totes.

The product can be applied using a brush, squeeze bottle, or pressurized extrusion or spray systems. Manual and fully automatic application system are available from Glue-Fast. Extruding a bead of SKID-LOCK results in a stronger bond, longer open times, and longer setting times verses spraying.

Gluing equipment need not be cleaned daily. However, if extrusion heads are used they should be removed and placed into a bucket of water. Spray nozzles normally require no daily maintenance, but should be checked upon startup of a shift to insure that they are functioning properly. All gluing equipment should be flushed with water periodically or when idle for extended periods of time.
