The E55504801 Solenoid Shelf Assembly (115V) is a critical electromechanical component used on
Better Packages BP555e series and BP500 water-activated (gummed) tape dispensers. This solenoid
controls tape feeding and cutting by lifting the blade and bringing the feed wheels together when energized.
How It Works
When the solenoid receives voltage, it raises the cutting blade and engages the feed wheels to advance tape.
When the solenoid deactivates, the blade drops and cuts the tape.
Common Failure Symptoms
- Buzzing or humming during operation
- Feed wheels not engaging
- Blade not lifting or dropping cleanly
Troubleshooting: Buzzing ? Always Replacement
If the solenoid buzzes, it may be due to debris, adhesive buildup, or mechanical blockage. Inspect and clean the plunger
area to remove tape adhesive, dust, or foreign material before replacing the part.
Low voltage on the same power circuit can also cause buzzing or weak mechanical action. If the voltage drops too low because multiple
electrical items share the same circuit, the solenoid may draw extra current, overheat, and eventually be damaged.
