E555-005-01 Solenoid Assembly
When the solenoid engages, it pulls the plunger down, raises the blade, causes the lower feed wheel to contact the upper feed wheel, and the tape dispenses. Then, the solenoid disengages, the cutter spring pulls the blade down cutting the tape, and returning the yoke and plunger back to rest position.
Fits Better Pack models BP500, BP555e, BP555S, BP554, BP556 and BP555L gummed tape dispensers. (Old Better Pack part number E550)
It's rare that we replace these, but it does happen. If you hear a buzzing noise, inspect the solenoid. You may find that there is build up on the top of the solenoid, where the plunger makes contact with the body of the solenoid. Clean the plunger & contact points on the solenoid with a wire brush. You can also use a small amount of lighter fluid on a paper towel to wipe off any remaining residue.
When installing or inspecting the solenoid, make sure that the body of the solenoid can shift a little on the plate that it is fastened to. You don't want to screw it so tight to the plate that it cannot shift during operation.
