If you are experiencing a lot of tape jams, turn off the machine, unplug from power, and allow the heater to cool. Then, lift the top heater and separate this plate from the heater. Remove any tape build up on this plate or the underside of the heater. Sometimes a piece of tape can get stuck between this plate and the lower tape plate, and to clear that you'll need to dig further into the machine. Avoid digging around in this area with hand tools to clear tape, as that can damage the blades. If you are unable to clean the plate or the plate is bent, replace.
Any tape or junk that is allowed to dry on this plate, will cause build up. This then creates a lip that tape catches on which causes jams.
